An off-duty coast guardsman was able to subdue and disarm a man, moments after he stabbed another person outside a bar in Arouca early on Saturday morning.
Police said the man got into an argument with a patron outside a bar on the Eastern Main Road, around 1.45 am when the suspect stabbed the victim in his lower midsection.
Passers-by took the wounded man to the Arima General Hospital where he was treated and transferred to another health facility where he underwent emergency surgery.
The suspect was arrested and kept in the custody of the sailor until officers of the Arouca CID visited the scene and arrested him.
Sources said the 39-year-old suspect was taken to the Arouca Police Station where he was cautioned and was expected to be charged.
