An off-du­ty coast guards­man was able to sub­due and dis­arm a man, mo­ments af­ter he stabbed an­oth­er per­son out­side a bar in Arou­ca ear­ly on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the man got in­to an ar­gu­ment with a pa­tron out­side a bar on the East­ern Main Road, around 1.45 am when the sus­pect stabbed the vic­tim in his low­er mid­sec­tion.

Passers-by took the wound­ed man to the Ari­ma Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed and trans­ferred to an­oth­er health fa­cil­i­ty where he un­der­went emer­gency surgery.

The sus­pect was ar­rest­ed and kept in the cus­tody of the sailor un­til of­fi­cers of the Arou­ca CID vis­it­ed the scene and ar­rest­ed him.

Sources said the 39-year-old sus­pect was tak­en to the Arou­ca Po­lice Sta­tion where he was cau­tioned and was ex­pect­ed to be charged.
