Officers in a police vehicle leading the Prime Minister's escort were involved in a traffic accident on Saturday morning along Saddle Road, Maraval.
The incident occurred around 11.45 am near Romain’s Hardware.
Police said the officers were in the vehicle, with sirens activated, heading south when a five-tonne Isuzu truck travelling on the same road reportedly experienced brake failure.
In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck driver veered to the right, but the truck ended up in the path of the police vehicle. Both vehicles were damaged in the collision.
No injuries were reported, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
PH driver robbed, stabbed by 'passengers'
A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a private hire (PH) taxi driver in Chase Village over the weekend.
Police said the incident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday along the Southern Main Road.
Investigators said the 21-year-old driver picked up two men on Eleanor Street, Chaguanas, who requested to be dropped off near the Chase Village triangle.
Upon arrival, the driver was attacked by the two "passengers" who stole his cell phone and stabbed him several times in the back and arms. The two suspects then ran off. The driver later sought assistance at the Chaguanas District Hospital.
Officers of the Central Division, acting on intelligence, detained a suspect shortly after the incident.
Investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to locate a second individual.
Fraud charges laid
A businessman and a businesswoman have been charged with fraud in two separate incidents.
In a statement issued Monday, the TTPS said Neil Pierre, a businessman from Viceroy Crescent, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, was formally charged on January 9 with ten counts of fraudulently obtaining credit by false pretences.
Police said Pierre allegedly acquired goods on credit worth $103,280 between March 15, 2022, and July 26, 2022, but failed to honour his financial obligations despite multiple attempts to recover the debt.
He is scheduled to appear before the San Fernando High Court on January 22.
In an unrelated matter, Annie Rambally, a 52-year-old businesswoman, was charged with fraudulent conversion.
Police said Rambally allegedly accepted $6,000 from a client for catering services in August 2022, but the services, scheduled for August 29 and 31, 2022, were allegedly never delivered.
An investigation led by Senior Superintendent Abbott resulted in Rambally's arrest on January 8.
She appeared before Master Kimitria Gray at the Tunapuna Magistrates Court on January 10, 2025, where she was granted $12,000 bail.
She is due to reappear in court on February 18.
