A 39-year-old man was arrested minutes after he beat a store clerk and robbed a Sangre Grande businessplace on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the bandit walked into the wholesale and retail business on the Eastern Main Road, at around 3 pm and pointed a cutlass at her, demanding her cell phone and money from the cash register of the fruit stall.
The bandit stole $2000 from the cash register, which accounted for the days’ sales, before demanding a key for the vault.
The clerk told the bandit that she did not have the key, but was beaten.
The woman called for help as the bandit ran away.
Passers-by were called in as officers from the Sangre Grande CID, the Eastern Division Task Force and the Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit visited the scene and received information which led them to Blake Avenue Extension, Damarie Hill, where they found the suspect and arrested him with what they described as “items of evidential value.”
The clerk was taken to a health facility where she was treated.
