?In an age of steel­pan racks and trucks, the tra­di­tion­al style of play­ing the sin­gle pan, or pan around your neck as it is more com­mon­ly called, is one that many pan lovers lament may be­come a thing of the past. How­ev­er, the hun­dreds of pan en­thu­si­asts that flocked to Cof­fee Street, San Fer­nan­do on Jan­u­ary 15, were en­ter­tained as the mem­bers of the Jah Roots sin­gle pan band, were the on­ly ones to strap their in­stru­ments around their necks. The Point Fortin band, which brought to a close the open­ing round of the Pan Trin­ba­go South/Cen­tral Re­gion's Na­tion­al Panora­ma Pre­lim­i­nar­ies 2010 Sin­gle Pan band cat­e­go­ry, per­formed its own arrange­ment to Su­per Blue's Wine On Some­thing.

At the start of the pre­lims around 8 pm, the first band to play for the judges was the Point Fortin-based Self Help Marines which per­formed De Fos­to's com­po­si­tion, Smooth Sail­ing. They were im­me­di­ate­ly fol­lowed by the New Age Trend­set­ters and the La Ro­maine Su­per Vibes bands with their se­lec­tions Margie and Fiery re­spec­tive­ly. Al­so per­form­ing were the Fyz­abad 4th Di­men­sion, Shades In Steel, the Rio Claro Koskeros, Pan Re­vival and High­lighters.
