?In an age of steelpan racks and trucks, the traditional style of playing the single pan, or pan around your neck as it is more commonly called, is one that many pan lovers lament may become a thing of the past. However, the hundreds of pan enthusiasts that flocked to Coffee Street, San Fernando on January 15, were entertained as the members of the Jah Roots single pan band, were the only ones to strap their instruments around their necks. The Point Fortin band, which brought to a close the opening round of the Pan Trinbago South/Central Region's National Panorama Preliminaries 2010 Single Pan band category, performed its own arrangement to Super Blue's Wine On Something.
At the start of the prelims around 8 pm, the first band to play for the judges was the Point Fortin-based Self Help Marines which performed De Fosto's composition, Smooth Sailing. They were immediately followed by the New Age Trendsetters and the La Romaine Super Vibes bands with their selections Margie and Fiery respectively. Also performing were the Fyzabad 4th Dimension, Shades In Steel, the Rio Claro Koskeros, Pan Revival and Highlighters.
