Paria Fuel Trading Company is calling on LMCS to provide the necessary information so that relatives of the divers who died in the February 2022 tragedy and the lone survivor can be compensated.
In a statement yesterday, Paria said it has been diligently working to process claims for compensation following the tragic incident which claimed the lives of four LMCS divers, but pointed to a scarcity of information from attorneys representing the affected families and the company.
The four divers—Kazim Ali Jr, Yusuf Henry, Fyzal Kurban and Rishi Nagassar—died after being sucked into an oil pipeline on February 25, 2022. The fifth diver, Christopher Boodram, was the only one to survive the accident.
There have been numerous calls from the divers’ relatives and Boodram for Paria to provide compensation.
However, Paria said despite its efforts to do so, progress has been hindered by a lack of information from LMCS and the legal representatives of the affected families.
“Paria’s attorneys are actively exchanging correspondence with those who have submitted claims, aiming for a balanced approach that considers all relevant stakeholders. This includes LMCS, the divers’ employer, the terms of their employment, and other critical information,” Paria said.
The company stressed that deviating from this established process could lead to delays in reaching a resolution.
“The company encourages LMCS and the affected families to respond constructively to the correspondence issued by Paria and its agents. This cooperation is essential for ensuring that all compensation claims are addressed properly and swiftly,” it added.
Paria assured the affected parties and the public of its commitment to finding a fair and expedient resolution,
“The company remains dedicated to moving forward as quickly and justly as possible.”
When contacted for comment, the attorney representing the families, Prakash Ramadhar, said he would respond to Paria’s statement at a media conference today. —Rhondor Dowlat
