A notification was laid in Parliament yesterday for Suzette Martin to become a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The Leader of Government Business in the House, Camille Robinson-Regis laid the notification for the nomination of Martin for the DCP’s post.
The nomination would have been sent to the President by the Police Service Commission (PolSC).
Robinson-Regis gave no other details. But it’s expected that the nomination of Martin - a Senior Superintendent at the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) - was to replace the recent unsuccessful nomination by the PolSC of ACP Wendell Lucas for the post of DCP.
Lucas was among three nominees from the PolSC for the posts of DCP submitted to the Parliament. In the February debate on the matter, the Government approved Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Junior Benjamin and Senior Superintendent Natasha George to be DCPs. Lucas, the third nominee was rejected by the Government. The Opposition UNC abstained in the vote for Lucas.
Following the rejection of Lucas, the PolSC would have had to return to its Order of Merit list for the three posts of DCP and recommended another ranked person, sources said.
The nomination for Martin is expected to be debated in Parliament on Monday.
