Parts of the Caroni River, in the areas of El Carmen and Tumpuna, are over capacity, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government has confirmed.
At 8:00 am today, the Caroni River in the El Carmen area was at 109% capacity, while the Caroni Tumpuna River was at 109% capacity.
And the Ministry is warning that several other rivers are dangerously close to breaching their banks:
● North Oropouche (Toco Road) – 82%
● Manuel Congo – 88%
● South Oropouche – 84%
● Cunupia River – 84%
● Bamboo Settlement #3 – 79%

In terms of confirmed reports of flooding this morning, the Ministry confirmed that North Oropouche Road and La Seiva Road in the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation were under floodwaters as early as 6:05 am.
In the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, there was a confirmed report of flooding on Chin Chin Road, as at 7:25 am.
Echoing advisories issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, the Ministry is strongly advising the public to AVOID DRIVING THROUGH FLOODED AREAS.
Members of the public should note that the tides will determine how quickly floodwaters will run off in your area.
For Trinidad, High Tide came into effect at 4:00 am today. It will return at 5:26 pm this evening.
Forecasters say expect Low Tide at 10:59 am and 10:39 pm.
A Riverine Flood Alert - ORANGE remains in effect today.
