Sev­en men have been placed un­der Pre­ven­tive De­ten­tion Or­ders un­der the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, with au­thor­i­ties link­ing them to sev­er­al or­gan­ised crime groups.

The or­ders were of­fi­cial­ly gazetted yes­ter­day but some of the or­ders were dat­ed as far back as April.

The de­tainees are Dar­win Brown, Em­manuel Lewis, Ri­car­do Have­lock, An­der­son Trim, Cur­tis Flem­ming, Ronal­do Pat­ter­son and Ron­dell Valen­tine.

Brown is ac­cused of lead­ing the ABG/Re­sis­tance Gang, which au­thor­i­ties say is in­volved in nar­cotics traf­fick­ing, armed rob­beries and re­tal­ia­to­ry shoot­ings.

Lewis and Have­lock are iden­ti­fied as mem­bers of the Dark Side Gang, with Have­lock de­scribed as its sec­ond in com­mand.

Trim and Flem­ming are linked to the Sev­en Gang, while Pat­ter­son is iden­ti­fied as a mem­ber of its Snatch­ing Ring fac­tion.

Valen­tine is iden­ti­fied as a mem­ber of the G Street Gang, a fac­tion of the R Gang.

The de­ten­tion or­ders ac­cuse the men of in­volve­ment in vi­o­lent crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty, in­clud­ing shoot­ings, rob­beries, firearms traf­fick­ing, nar­cotics of­fences and at­tacks on ri­val gang mem­bers.

Au­thor­i­ties say the or­ders are nec­es­sary to dis­rupt planned crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty and pre­vent the men from act­ing in a man­ner prej­u­di­cial to pub­lic safe­ty.

The or­ders were is­sued be­tween April 21 and Au­gust 10 by Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Roger Alexan­der.
