A 51-year-old, Penal man was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Threats to Kill when he appeared before Magistrate Nizam Khan, at the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.

A 51-year-old man from Penal, was placed on a bond in the sum of $40,000, to keep the peace for two years, when he appeared before Magistrate Nizam Khan, at the Siparia Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 10th October 2022.
The unemployed man, who was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Threats to Kill on 9th October, pleaded guilty to both charges.
According to police reports, around 7:30 am on 8th October 2022, a woman was at home, when she had an argument with her common-law husband of 22 years. The woman reported that during the argument the man dealt her several blows about the body, scratched her neck, bit her on her shoulder, and threatened to kill her. She also told police that the man habitually abuses her, both verbally and physically.
Officers of the Penal Police Station received the report around 8:10 am and immediately alerted the Gender-Based Violence Unit, who conducted investigations and arrested the man around 8:30 am that same morning. He was later charged by WPC Joseph on 9th October at the Penal Police Station.
The investigation was supervised by Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, Ag. ASP Bridglal, Ag. ASP Seecharan, Sgt Taylor and Cpl Singh.
