A 29-year-old Penal man charged with home invasion was granted $75,000 bail when he appeared before the Siparia Masters Court on Monday.
Peter Marshall, of Penal Rock Road, was not called upon to plead to the charge.
As part of his bail conditions, Marshall must remain at his current address, stay at least 50 feet away from the virtual complainant and report to the Penal Police Station three days per week.
The matter was adjourned to November 30.
The charge arose from an incident at a residence along Penal Rock Road around 1 am on Tuesday, October 6.
According to police, the woman had secured her home and gone to bed when she was awakened by a noise. Upon opening her eyes, she saw a man she recognised standing over her in her bedroom, armed with a cutlass.
The woman raised an alarm, causing the suspect to flee through a back door on the northern side of the premises.
Investigations were conducted by PC Ferguson under the supervision of senior police officers, including Senior Superintendent Hospedales, Woman Superintendent Bridglal and Assistant Superintendent Chulhan.
Following further enquiries and instructions from Bridglal, Marshall was charged with one count of home invasion.
