A Pe­tit Val­ley man was killed on last night in an am­bush at his home.

The vic­tim was iden­ti­fied as Wen­dell Charles of Capildeo Lands, Si­ta Dri­ve, off Pi­o­neer Dri­ve, Pe­tit Val­ley.

Sev­er­al res­i­dents ex­pressed shock and hor­ror over the killing, say­ing Charles was a “pas­tor” and well liked in the com­mu­ni­ty.

Res­i­dents re­port­ed hear­ing gun­shots around 7:30 pm on Sep­tem­ber 6.

When they checked, they found Charles ly­ing on the liv­ing room floor, bleed­ing from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds.

Al­though rel­a­tives de­clined to speak with Guardian Me­dia, a woman in the vil­lage de­scribed him as a “re­al­ly cool fel­la.”

One man ques­tioned why mur­ders con­tin­ued to oc­cur de­spite the coun­try be­ing un­der a State of Emer­gency, while an­oth­er urged the gov­ern­ment to adopt a holis­tic ap­proach to fight­ing crime, in­clud­ing in­creas­ing po­lice pres­ence on the na­tion’s roads and us­ing leg­is­la­tion to keep of­fend­ers be­hind bars.

The po­lice have not es­tab­lished a mo­tive for the killing, not­ing that Charles was not known to be in­volved in any crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty.
