A plainclothes police officer shot and killed a man in Chaguanas on Saturday morning, after the man allegedly pulled out a gun to shoot another man during an argument on a PH taxi stand.
According to initial reports, the incident took place at the Edinburgh 500 taxi stand along Andrew Street sometime after 10 am. The dead man has been identified as David Simmons, also known as Bruno.
Details are sketchy but police said eyewitnesses saw a man walk up to Simmons and an argument started. Police said Simmons allegedly pulled out a firearm and threatened to shoot the other man. A plainclothes officer who was nearby called on Simmons to drop the weapon but he refused and allegedly pointed the gun in the officer's direction. The officer fired at Simmons, hitting him in the body. Simmons was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he later died.
Police said Simmons was well known to them.
