Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has congratulated the Honourable Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh on his appointment as Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago.
In an official statement issued today, the Prime Minister described Chief Justice Boodoosingh’s elevation as a fitting recognition of his “illustrious legal career spanning more than three decades,” marked by “excellence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.” He has served as a Justice of Appeal for the past five years and has earned the respect of the legal fraternity and the wider public for his “sound judgment, fairness, and dedication to justice.”
“On behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend warm congratulations to Chief Justice Boodoosingh on his appointment and best wishes for continued success as he assumes this vital role in service to our nation,” the Prime Minister said.
She also reaffirmed her government’s commitment to working collaboratively with the Judiciary “in the shared pursuit of upholding justice, strengthening integrity, and deepening public trust in our democratic institutions.”
The statement expressed gratitude to outgoing Chief Justice Ivor Archie, who served for almost two decades. In his resignation announcement on October 21, Archie said, “This country has been good to me, and I hope that I have been equally good to my country. It has been an honour to serve. I wish my successor every success in the period ahead. May God guide his or her path as this new endeavour is commenced.”
The Government thanked Chief Justice Archie for his “truly remarkable career” and extended best wishes for success in his future endeavours.
