Prime Min­is­ter Row­ley will trav­el to St. George’s, Grena­da to­day for the Forty-Sev­enth (47th) Reg­u­lar Meet­ing of the Con­fer­ence of Heads of Gov­ern­ment of the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty (CARI­COM).

The meet­ing was orig­i­nal­ly sched­uled for ear­li­er this month but had to be post­poned be­cause of the pas­sage of Hur­ri­cane Beryl.  The im­pact of Hur­ri­cane Beryl on the re­gion will al­so form part of CARI­COM's dis­cus­sions.

Min­is­ter of En­er­gy Stu­art Young—who al­so holds the port­fo­lio of Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter—will act as Prime Min­is­ter for the first time in Dr. Row­ley's ab­sence. Pre­vi­ous­ly, Fi­nance Min­is­ter Colm Im­bert has act­ed as Prime Min­is­ter when­ev­er Dr. Row­ley is out of the coun­try.

The Prime Min­is­ter will be ac­com­pa­nied by the Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs Dr Amery Browne and At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Regi­nald Ar­mour SC. Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties Mar­vin Gon­za­les will act as AG in Ar­mour's ab­sence.

The meet­ing will fo­cus on sev­er­al is­sues in­clud­ing the CARI­COM Sin­gle Mar­ket and Econ­o­my, cli­mate change and sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment, agri-food and nu­tri­tion se­cu­ri­ty.

Prime Min­is­ter of Grena­da, Dick­on Mitchell, is the in­com­ing Chair­man of CARI­COM.
