Parliamentarians of the House of Representatives yesterday desk-thumped their congratulations to T&T "Javelin King" Keshorn Walcott and track and field sprinter Jereem "The Dream" Richards after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar praised their recent gold and silver sporting achievements.
This followed Walcott's "golden" 88.16-metre toss at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, where he topped other global athletes, some of whom had defeated him before. It was Walcott's second gold medal for T&T, following his record at the 2012 Olympics.
Richards also took silver for his 43.72-second "blaze" in the 400 metres final.
Launching the congratulations soon after Parliament convened, Persad-Bissessar told the House yesterday, "I just want to take a moment of the time of this Honourable House to register and record the victory of Keshorn Walcott and the great pride he brought to Trinidad and Tobago.
"This is not the first time he has made us proud, this is the second time and I'm sure the others (Opposition) will join us in congratulating Keshorn for bringing back pride to T&T by his victory.
"And we are also so proud of Jereem as well. We're so proud of that young man for his victory bringing silver recently in Japan, so can we thank him as well for the pride!" she called out to MPs.
Parliamentarians loudly desk-thumped their congratulations.
