The People’s National Movement spent last night finalising its slate for the upcoming local government elections with at least two candidates in the San Fernando City Corporation being replaced.
Guardian Media understands that incumbents for the Gulf View/La Romaine Anderson Williams and Marabella West La-Verne Smith were initially chosen during a previous screening at the PNM’s South Regional Office in San Fernando weeks ago.
However, new developments have seen new candidates being screened for the positions yesterday evening.
Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein confirmed that the final screening for candidates to contest electoral districts in the northern regional corporations was completed at Balisier House on Thursday.
Yesterday, the final candidates for the electoral districts in San Fernando and Princes Town regional corporations were done.
Hosein, who is the PNM election coordinator for the San Fernando Regional Corporation said the screening process has gone along smoothly.
He was confident that all nine electoral districts in the City would return to the People’s National Movement.
Dr Keith Rowley showed up for the screening but declined an interview.
Up to yesterday, no date has been given for the elections.
