Heavy police and army presence yesterday formed part of the Point Fortin J'Ouvert celebrations.

The heavily armed law enforcement officers patrolled the streets on feet, in vehicles and horses shortly before dawn and before the parade of over 30 bands started.

Even a hovering helicopter and drones monitored from the air throughout the early morning on Saturday.

With more revellers than spectators this year, band leaders had little need for heavy security in their bands.

The J'Ouvert formed part of the Borough's 39th-anniversary celebrations, alongside Pan-on-the-Move, Schools Pan for Blue, the Miss Point Fortin Queen Pageant and Kaiso Unplugged.

Despite the late start, it was smooth sailing after the bands began to parade the streets of Point Fortin.

An officer at the Point Fortin Police Station said the celebration was incident free.
