The body of 44-year-old nurse Marian Bacchus was found in her Vistabella apartment on Sunday night.
Police said she was discovered with a wound to the neck and a knife nearby. An autopsy will determine whether the injury was self-inflicted.
Officers said her 69-year-old landlord contacted them around 8:10 p.m. after relatives told him they had been unable to reach her by phone. They said the relatives had visited her apartment but got no response.
When the landlord arrived around 7:30 p.m., he called out to her but got no answer. He then used his key to open the apartment, where he found her motionless in a bedroom.
Investigators said Bacchus lived alone and was last seen alive on October 8. That day, she visited a doctor to get sick leave and was later dropped off at her apartment by her brother around 5:30 p.m.
Relatives said calls to her phone went unanswered, and her brother tried visiting her in the days that followed but got no response.
Bacchus worked at the San Fernando General Hospital.
