A team of po­lice of­fi­cers along with the Com­mis­sion­er of State Lands are at this time at an il­le­gal quar­ry site in East Trinidad.

One per­son has been de­tained by po­lice. The sus­pect, how­ev­er, told po­lice that he is a watch­man hired to guard an ad­ja­cent piece of land.

At about 11.30 am, as the en­tourage of po­lice and of­fi­cials from the Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture was dri­ving through a dirt track lead­ing to the site, three men who were at the quar­ry site es­caped by run­ning through near­by bush­es.

An ex­ca­va­tor left aban­doned by the men is ex­pect­ed to be seized by po­lice.
