Police rescued a Bon Air woman and her nine-month-old daughter on Thursday after her ex-partner kidnapped them and locked them in a house in Tunapuna for several hours.
According to reports, the woman had arranged to meet her ex-boyfriend, the father of her child, to collect items for a sewing job. He allegedly told her to wait along the Priority Bus Route, Caura, at 2 pm on 20 February.
The two had been in a five-year relationship before breaking up five months ago. After leaving their shared home, the woman left behind some belongings, including sewing supplies and equipment.
The victim told police that when her ex arrived, he asked to hold their daughter. As she handed him the baby, he threatened to kill her and her current boyfriend. He then stopped a maxi-taxi, forced the woman inside against her will, and held onto the child.
The suspect took them to his home after they got out the maxi at Camody Street, St Augustine, where he kept them for several hours.
Onlookers alerted the police, and officers from Tunapuna Police Station, who were on patrol in the area, rescued the woman and her child.
