Officers of the Port of Spain Task Force seized a firearm, ammunition and marijuana during an anti-crime exercise yesterday.
The following is an official press release on the incident.
“One firearm, a quantity of ammunition, and marijuana plants were found by officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force during an Operation Strike Back exercise yesterday, Monday 12th July 2021.
Based on information received, several searches were conducted in the Belmont area. During the exercise, the officers proceeded to an area along St Barbs Road, Laventille, and carried out a search on an abandoned structure.
During the search, PC Gangoo found one black and silver pistol and a magazine containing nine rounds of nine millimetre ammunition and a white plastic bag containing 14 rounds of assorted ammunition.
As the exercise continued, the officers proceeded to a bushy area along St Barbs Road where over 100 marijuana seedlings and plants were discovered. The plants and seedlings were seized and destroyed.
The exercise was coordinated by ACP Yusuf Gaffar and Snr. Supt Terrence Nobbee, spearheaded by W/Supt Lancaster- Ellis and Supt Kissonlal, ASP Cumberbatch and Insp Knott, supervised by Sgt. Alexander, Cpls, Sookhoo, Modeste, Thomas Huggings, and W/Ag Cpl. Fernando.”
