In­ves­ti­ga­tions were on­go­ing yes­ter­day evening as po­lice sought to de­ter­mine the mo­tive be­hind the mur­der of Pro­man em­ploy­ee Ri­car­do Di­az.

Di­az, 51, a pro­cure­ment man­ag­er, was found shot dead in­side a ve­hi­cle along Rivulet Road in Cou­va on Thurs­day.

Re­ports state that around 4.45 pm, a mo­torist trav­el­ling along Rivulet Road no­ticed a black BYD Sealion 7 stalled in the east­bound lane near Na­tion­al En­er­gy, caus­ing traf­fic dis­rup­tion.

The mo­torist ap­proached the dri­ver’s side to of­fer as­sis­tance, but on get­ting clos­er, dis­cov­ered Di­az slumped over in­to the pas­sen­ger seat and bleed­ing from ap­par­ent gun­shot wounds.

The ve­hi­cle’s win­dows were down, and sev­er­al spent shells were seen on the road­way. Crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors lat­er re­cov­ered ten spent shells and a pro­jec­tile at the scene.

Po­lice said Di­az had been em­ployed at Pro­man’s ware­house for the past five years and was pro­mot­ed to head of de­part­ment six months ago.

He was last seen by col­leagues leav­ing the com­pound about 15 min­utes be­fore his body was dis­cov­ered.

Of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion 3, are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
