Something ugly is happening in our society and it will only get worse if we do not take a stand. Verna St Rose-Greaves, the People's Partnership's candidate for St Ann's East made this comment on a 'Women in Partnership' platform," on Friday in Diego Martin. "To the leaders of this country, we have to tone it down. Let us bring down the temperature," she said. St Rose, the first speaker on the all-female platform, spoke passionately about women, crime and education. Among them was Stacy Roopnarine, the Partnership's candidate for Oropouche West. She asked the sizeable crowd to look past age, gender and race. "On May 24, we will have a mother of this nation," she declared.

St Rose spoke of the levels of both physical and verbal attacks on women which have been happening during political campaigns. Speaking of the threat that was allegedly made on Kamla Persad-Bissessar's life last week, St Rose said: "We cannot dismiss any threat of violence and take it lightly. "I remember the number of women who come to the police, social workers, people in charge and say my life has been threatened and they are dismissed," she said. She said some of these women were killed as they were not taken seriously. St Rose condemned any attacks, mentioning the incident where paint was thrown on the Arouca/Maloney incumbent, Alicia Hospedales. "We cannot bring ourselves to a place where we cannot live with each other when the election is over," St Rose cautioned.
