Chairman of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, Lyle Alexander admitted that it was nearly impossible to avoid the ramp malfunction on Saturday.
He told Guardian Media the bolts on the ramp are more likely to get damaged when connected to the vessel during rough seas while it’s docked in the port.
During the docking of the 10 am Buccoo Reef sailing, the Scarborough Port experienced a major two-hour delay due to damaged bolts on the ramp.
Alexander said, “It is a situation we are faced with every time we have a combination of a cruise ship in Port plus the seas with the weather behaving in a particular way that would give turbulence to the waters.”
Alexander said a contractor arrived within an hour to fix the issue, which took an additional hour.
