A pregnant Barrackpore woman had to seek medical attention after she was struck in her abdomen during a home invasion on Sunday night.
The 30-year-old woman was at her home with her 39-year-old relative around 9.30 pm, when three armed men stormed into their home.
The men robbed the relative of two cellphones valued at $1,600 and $2,300 and then hit the pregnant woman in her belly. They escaped in her relative’s $20,000 white Honda Civic.
The pregnant woman was later taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.
Police believe the suspects also tried to rob another woman ten minutes later.
The 61-year-old woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked AD wagon along Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore, around 9.40 pm, near a barbecue food outlet. She said a white Honda Civic with three occupants pulled alongside her and a man came out and pointed a gun at her. She drove off and slammed into a vehicle. The suspect returned to the car and left the scene.
In an earlier incident around 10.30 am, two women, aged 53 and 40, were at their market stall at Lower Barrackpore, Monkey Town, opposite the recreation ground, when two armed men came out of a silver Almera. They robbed the women of their jewelery and money and escaped in the vehicle.
Investigations are continuing.
