Pride TT has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the United National Congress (UNC) Coalition of Interests on their success in the 2025 General Election.

The organisation says it is hopeful that this new era of leadership will usher in long-awaited progress on critical human rights and social justice issues affecting our nation’s LGBTQ+ community.

In a statement on Wednesday, Pride TT said, "Pride TT strongly urges the new government to prioritize amendments to the Equal Opportunity Act (EOA) to include protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV/AIDS status, and age. These updates are vital to ensuring that all citizens can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity under the law."

It is also calling on the administration to implement measures to protect LGBTQ+ individuals from violence, with special attention to combating bullying and discrimination in schools. Every child deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from fear.

The statement further said, "Transgender citizens in Trinidad and Tobago face heightened levels of discrimination, violence, and social exclusion. Pride TT calls on the new government to enact policies that affirm and protect the rights of trans people, including access to gender-affirming healthcare, legal recognition of gender identity, and safeguards against workplace and housing discrimination. The dignity and rights of transgender individuals must be upheld in all areas of public life."
