A prison officer and a food vendor at the Port-of-Spain Hospital were among 12 people arrested and charged for offences committed within the state’s prison.
On Friday, November 14, 2025, Terry-Ann De Leon was arrested for allowing prohibited articles to be introduced into the Port-of-Spain Prison. She appeared before Master Mohammed at the High Court, pleaded not guilty, and was granted her own bail.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, senior police and prison officers conducted searches at the Extended Remand Facility (ERF) in Golden Grove and the Maximum Security Prison (MSP) in Arouca.
Some inmates faced additional charges after refusing to be fingerprinted. They are expected to appear before a High Court Master on Monday.
Prison Officer Zane Maynard, attached to the Arouca Maximum Security Prison, was granted bail of $200,000 after being charged with possession of marijuana and possession of prohibited articles. The officer, who has four years of service, is required to report to the Arouca Police Station on Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
