The po­lit­i­cal leader of the Pa­tri­ot­ic Front has added her voice to those call­ing for re­al so­lu­tions to the coun­try's spi­ralling crime rate, say­ing a proac­tive ap­proach to fight­ing crime is need­ed ur­gent­ly.

A guest on to­day’s edi­tion of CNC3’s The Morn­ing Brew show, Mick­ela Pan­day says for too long, there has been a re­ac­tive ap­proach to crime—es­pe­cial­ly mur­ders.

She says it is time to se­cure this coun­try's bor­ders in an ef­fort to con­trol what she main­tains is “a gun vi­o­lence epi­dem­ic”.

She be­lieves that all that is re­quired is po­lit­i­cal will.

“I al­so do not be­lieve that you need to tell cit­i­zens and pass the buck and say, ‘Well, I can’t do the job as the State with all the re­sources—all the hu­man and fi­nan­cial re­sources—but you know what? Do it for your­self. You should do it be­cause I’m in­ca­pable of do­ing it’. That’s ridicu­lous!  Where there is a will there is a way,” the Pa­tri­ot­ic Front leader as­serts.

“Crime in this coun­try ben­e­fits very im­por­tant peo­ple and there­fore, it has been al­lowed to con­tin­ue,” she says. “We’ve grown up think­ing it’s ac­cept­able. It isn’t ac­cept­able and it should not be.”

She added: “We have to say, ‘Enough is enough!’  Oth­er­wise, this will spi­ral out of con­trol in a way that … We’re al­ready rid­ing a tiger that we we’re prac­ti­cal­ly un­able to come off with­out hav­ing po­lit­i­cal will, gump­tion and brav­ery to fight.”

Mick­ela Pan­day says one of the most ba­sic func­tions of any gov­ern­ment is to pro­tect its cit­i­zens, and any po­lit­i­cal par­ty as­pir­ing to of­fice must be cer­tain they can do that job, or else not both­er to put them­selves up for elec­tion.
