Police are searching for a bandit who was reportedly stabbed by a Cumuto proprietor on Tuesday night during a robbery at his business place.
Police said Gabriel Fernandez, 68, of Cumuto Main Road, was conducting sales around 7.47 pm when two masked men entered and said it was a hold up.
As the men, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached him–Fernandez picked up a knife and stabbed the man nearest to him.
This prompted the two bandits to flee the business place, although the armed man fired several shots as they fled.
No one was injured during the incident.
The men entered a waiting car which later crashed near Hilltop Drive, Cumuto Main Road, following which they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Cpl Blake, along with WPC Hodge Games and a party of officers from the Cumuto Police Station together with the Highway Patrol and the Task Force South, conducted an extensive search for the suspects but were unsuccessful in locating the men.
Four spent shells and one live 9 mm round was recovered at the scene.
Checks revealed the getaway vehicle was registered to a resident of Cuckoo Drive, Bon Air, Arouca.
