Relatives of Travis Jack, who was killed in an accident on Sunday, believe poor road conditions caused the crash.
Jack, 29, a security officer, died after he lost control of his Honda Civic along the Guapo Road in Fyzabad shortly before 2 pm. The car swerved off the road, flipped, and landed in a resident’s yard.
Jack’s younger brother Emmanuel Meade said they saw footage of the accident.
He said, “He was coming back to Fyzabad from Siparia. When he reached near to the Fyzabad Composite School, he hit a depression, and the car spun. He lost control.”
Meade claimed that stretch is prone to accidents, and at least three people have lost their lives over the years.
Lamenting that the road was in a terrible state, he called on the authorities to repair it as soon as possible.
Meade said he arrived at the crash site about 15 minutes after the accident. He said officers from the Fire Service had to use the Jaws of Life to remove his brother from the car, but the ambulance took more than an hour to arrive. Jack was taken to the Siparia Health Facility.
Meanwhile, Josanne Salandy, who lives close to where the accident occurred, also claimed there were previous road fatalities in that area.
“Yes, that road poses a danger to us as residents. They should raise the road and flatten it out. It is near to a school and more should be done for the safety of the children and motorists,” she said.
At Jack’s Fyzabad home yesterday, his mother Jennifer Meade described him as a loving and caring person. She said he was the father of two young children.
Fyzabad police are investigating.
