Relatives of murdered father of two, Derick Valentine, who was killed in the presence of his two children on Sunday night, said they believe in the system of justice.
Valentine's three-year-old daughter and her four-week-old baby brother escaped unhurt when their father was shot multiple times during a home invasion at their home in Diego Martin.
Police said shortly after 9 pm on Sunday, Valentine, 33 of Covigne Road, was at home with his two children and 21-year-old wife when two gunmen men broke into the house and opened fire shooting Valentine multiple times about the body before escaping.
Valentine was employed at a popular gyro business located at Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook. He was originally from St Joseph.
He was taken to the St James infirmary where he died while undergoing emergency treatment at about 10 pm.
Relatives, who spoke with the Guardian Media on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Centre, described Valentine as an "excellent father" who was very hardworking. They said they are confused as to why their well-loved relative was killed as he was not known to have enemies. They said he was not involved in any illegal activities and they knew "for sure" that since the birth of his first child he had become a better person.
Valentine's wife, who was treated at hospital for the bullet graze over her eye and discharged, was at Forensics but remained seated in a vehicle. She was said to be very distraught and inconsolable.
A motive is yet to be established for the killing.
