Relatives of St James woman who was beaten to death during a home invasion believe she was followed to her home by her killers.
The killers ransacked Gemma Khan’s Mucurapo Road home stealing a television set and her vehicle.
An autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Tuesday confirmed that the woman died from blunt force trauma. There were several injuries to her face.
A relative, who did not want to be identified, said Khan’s murder has rocked the family as they have no clue whether or not there were other motives apart from the robbery.
“She was a very lovely person with a great personality. We are shocked to hear that her life was snuffed out in such a gruesome manner,” a relative said.
Guardian Media was told that relatives are a bit baffled as to how the door to Khan’s home was locked when they arrived. They believe it was locked from the outside by her killer or killers as they left the scene.
Khan would have celebrated her 74th birthday next month.
One of her brothers, who resides in Tobago, is hoping for swift justice.
According to a police report, at around 10 am on Monday, one of Khan’s daughters went to her home to check on her and found the door locked.
With the assistance of neighbours, the door was broken down and they made the horrific discovery of Khan’s body covered under a pile of clothes.
Relatives said they tried to contact Khan over the weekend but got no response which prompted them to visit the home.
Khan was buried under Muslim rites at the Nur-E-Islam Masjid in El Socorro on Tuesday.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 555 or 999 or 800 TIPS.
