Police are searching for an injured bandit who may have been shot after allegedly firing at officers during a chase following a robbery in San Fernando, yesterday morning.

Investigators said at 5.50 am, Mon Repos officers PC Samaroo and PC Ghisyawan, along with Privates Cyrus and Jeremiah, from the T&T Regiment, responded to a robbery at Naparima Mayaro Road, Cocoyea Village. The suspect, described as slim with a dark complexion, ran away.

The officers spotted him walking along Corinth Road. When the suspect noticed the approaching police vehicle, he ran through the residential area of Aerides Drive and into Corinth Hills, closely followed by the police.

During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.

PC Samaroo fired two shots in the suspect’s direction.

Investigators said the chase continued and the suspect again pointed his gun at the officers near Kalymnos Circular, where PC Samaroo fired two more shots. The suspect again fled, leaving droplets of blood at the scene, indicating he may have been injured.

Police subsequently alerted all medical institutions to be on the lookout for the suspect.

A search of the area revealed blood behind apartments and a water tank damaged by gunfire. DNA samples were collected for testing. The suspect remains at large, and police led by Supt Heeraman Singh are continuing their investigations.
