Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has described as a "monstrous lie" claims made in Parliament yesterday by Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal and has called on Police Commissioner Gary Griffith to investigate.
Dr Rowley, sitting alongside his attorney Michael Quamina, responded to the allegations during a media briefing this morning.
He has also called on the Financial Intelligence Unit to investigate and has instructed Attorney General Faris al Rawi to use the legal assustance treaty with the United States to pursue the statements and documents quoted by Dr Moonilal.
Dr Rowley said he will make a statement to Parliament this afternoon.
Quamina said the Opposition MP's statements would normally attract the laws of defamation but were protected by Parliament.
"One does have to overcome the hurdle of parliamentary privilege," the attorney said.
However, he warned that activities on Facebook amount to a repetition of the claim. He said legal action will be taken in the matter.
