A Salybia man was doused with a liquid on Thursday before being chopped about the body by a man he knew.
Police said the 43-year-old was walking through a track in his garden at Pierre Street Extension, Salybia, around 8.30 am on April 10 – when he saw the suspect whom he knew, standing behind a coconut tree with a cutlass in his hand.
He then saw the man holding a plastic bottle with a liquid in it.
As he got closer, he could hear the suspect counting backwards from ten – and when he reached zero, the suspect threw the contents of the bottle in his face.
As the victim turned and ran towards his home, he was pursued by the suspect and as he fell to the ground, the suspect walked up and began chopping him about the body.
The victim’s family intervened and contacted emergency health officials, who took both men to the Sangre Grande Hospital.
