An 83-year-old pensioner, of Petit Bourg, San Juan, was assaulted and robbed by a man she knows in the neighbourhood.
The victim was in her house around 2.30 pm on Monday, when the man walked into her living room.
He announced a robbery, covered the victim’s mouth with his hand and attempted to gag her with a cloth.
After this proved futile, the suspect dragged the victim into the bedroom, demanding cash and valuables.
Rummaging in a cupboard, the suspect stole three cell phones, one Apple iPad, and a quantity of undisclosed US and TT currency, along with Royal Bank, First Citizens and Scotiabank debit cards.
He later escaped on foot.
The victim managed to raise an alarm, and neighbours contacted the police, who later took her to the San Juan Health Centre for treatment.
