Search on for boy, 9, who drowned at Toco

A fam­i­ly out­ing to To­co beach turned trag­ic yes­ter­day for a Laven­tille fam­i­ly as one of their loved ones drowned.

Omarie Prov­i­dence, nine, of Pic­ton Road, dis­ap­peared un­der wa­ter while bathing with his fam­i­ly at Mis­sion Beach.

Divers from the T&T Coast Guard, fish­er­men and bathers were search­ing for the child up to late yes­ter­day.

Three oth­er rel­a­tives, who al­so got in­to dif­fi­cul­ties while bathing, re­ceived med­ical at­ten­tion at To­co Health Cen­tre af­ter be­ing res­cued.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 1.30 pm Omarie was bathing with his fa­ther and the rest of his fam­i­ly when they all got in­to dif­fi­cul­ties.

Bathers went to their res­cue but were on­ly able to save the three oth­er mem­bers of the fam­i­ly.

Omarie dis­ap­peared un­der wa­ter and nev­er resur­faced.

In­sp Sankar, Ag Cpl Bha­gan and PC Ma­haraj of the To­co Po­lice Sta­tion vis­it­ed the scene.

PC Ma­haraj is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
