A family outing to Toco beach turned tragic yesterday for a Laventille family as one of their loved ones drowned.
Omarie Providence, nine, of Picton Road, disappeared under water while bathing with his family at Mission Beach.
Divers from the T&T Coast Guard, fishermen and bathers were searching for the child up to late yesterday.
Three other relatives, who also got into difficulties while bathing, received medical attention at Toco Health Centre after being rescued.
Police reported that around 1.30 pm Omarie was bathing with his father and the rest of his family when they all got into difficulties.
Bathers went to their rescue but were only able to save the three other members of the family.
Omarie disappeared under water and never resurfaced.
Insp Sankar, Ag Cpl Bhagan and PC Maharaj of the Toco Police Station visited the scene.
PC Maharaj is continuing investigations.
