The number of people with the Delta variant of COVID-19 has climbed yet again and the figure now stands at 49.
In its daily update yesterday, the Ministry of Health reported that seven new cases of the Delta variant have been detected in the country.
Of those seven cases, five of them have no travel history; six of them had no contact with symptomatic persons.
The ministry also said that three of the seven cases were fully vaccinated people, with one partially vaccinated and the remaining three unvaccinated.
It added that one person who made up the seven Delta variant cases succumbed to the virus.
This is the second person to have died from the Delta variant.
The first death was reported by the ministry last Friday.
In addition, the country’s COVID death toll has risen to 1,551 after eleven people lost their fight with the virus. Those who died are four elderly males, one elderly female, one middle-aged male, three middle-aged females with comorbidities, and one middle-aged male, and a middle-aged female without any commodities or pre-existing health conditions.
The country also recorded 248 new positive cases yesterday.
Meanwhile, the number of fully vaccinated citizens stood at 546,532.
