A female security guard attached to a private company in Woodbrook is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate tomorrow, charged with negligence after she misplaced her work-issued firearm whilst on duty.
Up to yesterday, the 41-year-old woman, of Belle Eau Road, Belmont, remained in police custody.
The woman reportedly told officers that upon assuming duty Friday night, she took possession of the Glock pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition and left on a patrol in the Woodbrook area before returning to the office.
Officers heard that sometime later, the woman returned and went to use the washroom. However, it was not until 6 am yesterday, as she prepared the hand over her shift, that she realised the gun and ammunition was missing. Searches of the washroom and surrounding areas, as well as the vehicle the woman used, did not turn up the weapon.
A report was later made to the Woodbrook Police Station, where it was decided that officers of the Major Crimes Unit at the Woodbrook CID would take over the matter.
Led by Insp Andre Lopez and Sgt Brandon Danny, WPC Cooper began conducting inquiries which began with a visit to the woman’s office where interviews were conducted.
The female officer was later arrested after she said she may have left it on the toilet tank in the washroom. She is to be charged with criminal negligence.
