A security officer attached to MI4 Security Services is Tobago’s latest murder victim after he was gunned during a robbery.
His killing brought the island’s murder count to nine for 2019.
A female security officer was also shot during the attack.
The murdered officer was identified as Mark Nurse 43, of Bon Accord, Tobago.
According to police reports, the incident occurred shortly after 1 am on Friday, on the Penny Savers Carnbee compound.
Guardian Media understands that the officers were in the process of collecting the day’s sales when they were accosted by bandits, armed with high powered weapons.
Nurse was shot once in the head, he died on the scene.
The female security officer identified as Atoyia Charles, 36 of Signal Hill, was also wounded. She was shot in her right arm and left leg.
Charles was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for treatment and was said to be in a stable condition.
The bandits allegedly escaped with over $160,000 in cash.
Nurse was also an employee of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency CERT team.
In a statement, TEMA said, “Our condolences to the family and we condemn this odious act and ask that those responsible be swiftly brought to justice”
District Medical Officer Dr Adeyemi Maxwell visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Scarborough Hospital Mortuary.
The Tobago Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations.
