After three years of thirsting for the Gayelle, Rio Claro boisman Selwyn John won his fourth title at the National Stickfighting Competition last night.

John did not have to throw a blow in the night's final bout at Skinner Park, San Fernando, as his challenger, Daniel Barclay, conceded at the start. Barclay had suffered an injury to his arm in his semi-final bout against Mark Quashie.

John walked away with the top prize of $30,000.

Although Barclay competed in the final, the judges placed him third in the competition, awarding Evon Ralph the runner-up position. Ralph won the 3rd/4th place bout as his competitor, Quashie, conceded the match without a fight.

Anderson Marcano won the Candal Competition, a new category for the Best-Dressed Boisman.

With fatherhood came greater responsibility—and even greater love. The best part of having two girls is the constant love and kisses I get every single day.”
