The Senate approved the Cannabis Control Bill (2020) just after 1 am yesterday, after a marathon sitting which began on Tuesday afternoon.
This was confirmed by Government and Opposition officials.
The Bill seeks to regulate the handling of cannabis activities and to allow for the establishment of a T&T Cannabis Licensing Authority to issue licences - from cultivation and distribution to transport - of a cannabis business sector.
It was, however, passed with amendments.
The amendments will now be sent to the House of Representatives for approval.
The focus on completing the bill was also due to tomorrow’s sitting of the Senate, which will debate the Appropriation Bill to add $3 billion to the 2022 Budget.
That bill was presented in the House on Monday.
