The Desalination Plant at Point Lisas

The De­sali­na­tion Plant at Point Lisas will be shut down for three days, from Tues­day 13 to Thurs­day 15 Sep­tem­ber 2022, to fa­cil­i­tate emer­gency re­pairs to a leak on the Clear­well Head­er at the fa­cil­i­ty.

An ad­vi­so­ry from the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty of Trinidad and To­ba­go ex­plains that De­sal­cott (De­sali­na­tion Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go) no­ti­fied it of the three-day shut­down, which will im­pact the over­all pipe borne wa­ter sup­ply to ar­eas in Cen­tral and South Trinidad.

“The De­sal­cott owned and op­er­at­ed de­sali­na­tion plant, pro­vides the Au­thor­i­ty with 40 mil­lion gal­lons dai­ly, which is used to sup­ply the Point Lisas In­dus­tri­al Es­tate, as well as aug­ment the sup­ply to ar­eas in Cen­tral and South Trinidad,” WASA points out.

WASA says in or­der to mit­i­gate the ef­fects of this sup­ply short­fall on op­er­a­tions, it will im­ple­ment the fol­low­ing mea­sures dur­ing the pe­ri­od of shut­down:

●   Re-dis­tri­b­u­tion of sup­ply from the Ca­roni and Navet Wa­ter Treat­ment Plants;

●   Im­ple­men­ta­tion of tem­po­rary sup­ply sched­ules;

●   En­sure full ca­pac­i­ty stor­age at crit­i­cal ser­vice reser­voirs;

●   In­crease wa­ter truck­ing ca­pac­i­ty;

●   Spe­cial em­pha­sis and arrange­ments to sup­ply schools, health in­sti­tu­tions, homes for aged and oth­er spe­cial needs or­gan­i­sa­tions.

Af­fect­ed ar­eas in­clude:  Cen­tral Ca­roni, War­renville, Cunu­pia, Ch­agua­nas, Ca­paro, Chase vil­lage, Cou­va, Pt Lisas, Cal­i­for­nia, Clax­ton Bay, Plai­sance Park, Pointe a Pierre, City of San Fer­nan­do, Vista­bel­la, Mara­bel­la, Gas­par­il­lo South West Union Hall, Pleas­antville, Palmiste, Phillip­ine, Dun­can Vil­lage, Es­per­ance, Gulf View, Bel Air, La Ro­main, South Oropouche, Ota­heite, Rousil­lac, Aripero, parts of La Brea, Av­o­cat, Fyz­abad, parts of Siparia in­clud­ing De Gannes Vil­lage and Quar­ry Vil­lage, San Fran­cique, Debe, Syne Vil­lage, Lowkie Trace, Sun­rees Road, and Mo­ra Dam Road.

Cus­tomers are ad­vised to main­tain/es­tab­lish a sys­tem of stor­age and man­age their wa­ter use ef­fi­cient­ly, as it may take up to 48 hours for the sup­ply to nor­mal­ize to some af­fect­ed ar­eas, af­ter the Plant re­turns to full op­er­a­tion.
