Con­tro­ver­sial so­cial me­dia per­son­al­i­ty Gabriel “Bat­man” Har­ri­gin has been re­mand­ed to prison af­ter be­ing de­nied bail when he ap­peared in court charged with kid­nap­ping and rape.

Har­ri­gin, who has gained no­to­ri­ety for his vi­ral ex­ploits lo­cal­ly and abroad, made his first ap­pear­ance be­fore High Court Mas­ter In­di­ra Chinebas yes­ter­day morn­ing. Bail was re­fused at that hear­ing.

Mas­ter Chinebas is ex­pect­ed to re­con­sid­er bail when Har­ri­gin, who is rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Lar­ry Williams, reap­pears in court on March 20.

Ac­cord­ing to court al­le­ga­tions, the in­ci­dent oc­curred in Jan­u­ary, two days af­ter Har­ri­gin cel­e­brat­ed his 32nd birth­day.

The com­plainant told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that Har­ri­gin picked her up at her home in D’Abadie and that they went to a bar along Ari­api­ta Av­enue, Wood­brook. She al­leged that af­ter they left the es­tab­lish­ment, she be­lieved he was tak­ing her home but in­stead drove to his res­i­dence in St James.

The woman claimed that when she at­tempt­ed to leave, Har­ri­gin slapped and cuffed her be­fore drag­ging her in­side the house. She fur­ther al­leged that he threat­ened to “kill and bury” her and forced her to have un­pro­tect­ed sex­u­al in­ter­course on two oc­ca­sions.

She lat­er re­port­ed the mat­ter to of­fi­cers at the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion af­ter be­ing dropped off in Port-of-Spain, po­lice said.

Har­ri­gin was ar­rest­ed by in­ves­ti­ga­tors last week af­ter he was re­port­ed­ly de­port­ed from Guyana. He was sub­se­quent­ly charged af­ter al­leged­ly be­ing iden­ti­fied in an iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rade.

He is fac­ing charges of kid­nap­ping, false im­pris­on­ment, griev­ous sex­u­al as­sault, two counts of rape and as­sault by beat­ing.
