Two men are dead fol­low­ing a shootout with po­lice in San­gre Grande on Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the North-Cen­tral Gang In­tel­li­gence Unit (NCGIU) re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that ban­dits in a red Hon­da Vezel were plan­ning to rob a busi­ness place af­ter the CPL Crick­et Fi­nals at around 6.37 pm.

Of­fi­cers vis­it­ed the area at Jairas­ingh Vil­lage and mon­i­tored the ve­hi­cle.

Of­fi­cers then re­port­ed­ly tried to in­ter­cept the car, but were shot at by ban­dits.

The of­fi­cers re­turned fire, hit­ting the men, Shyien Tran­coso and En­rique Gar­cia, a sol­dier.

Both men were from Up­per Coalmine Road, San­gre Grande.

Both men were tak­en to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal, where they were de­clared dead at 7.27 pm.

Po­lice found an AR-15 ri­fle with 25 rounds of ar­mour-pierc­ing 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion.

The car was towed to the San­gre Grande Po­lice Sta­tion for fur­ther analy­sis.
