Two men are dead following a shootout with police in Sangre Grande on Sunday afternoon.
Police said officers of the North-Central Gang Intelligence Unit (NCGIU) received information that bandits in a red Honda Vezel were planning to rob a business place after the CPL Cricket Finals at around 6.37 pm.
Officers visited the area at Jairasingh Village and monitored the vehicle.
Officers then reportedly tried to intercept the car, but were shot at by bandits.
The officers returned fire, hitting the men, Shyien Trancoso and Enrique Garcia, a soldier.
Both men were from Upper Coalmine Road, Sangre Grande.
Both men were taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where they were declared dead at 7.27 pm.
Police found an AR-15 rifle with 25 rounds of armour-piercing 5.56 ammunition.
The car was towed to the Sangre Grande Police Station for further analysis.
