The Minister of Health confirms that Spain has agreed to donate 40,000 Pfizer paediatric vaccines. Following the receipt of those doses, Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said Government will commence its vaccination program for children between the ages of 5 to 11 years old.
However, Minister Deyalsingh could not give a confirmed date for delivery.
"But as with all the vaccines coming in we are working assiduously behind the scenes to acquire these vaccines in the shortest space of time, and let's hope that you all (the Opposition) encourage children to take the vaccines."
The Minister said the Government is also in discussion with Pfizer Inc. to procure more paediatric vaccines as he estimates that 120,000 children qualify for the shot which will require 240,000 doses.
Minister Deyalsingh added that the shots from the Spanish Government is expected to expire in June 2022. The Health Minister said the World Health Organisation (WHO) granted approval for the use of the vaccine on children in January 2022.
