A St Joseph man was killed on Mon­day in what po­lice are de­scrib­ing as a re­venge at­tack fol­low­ing a day of gun-fu­elled ex­changes.

The de­ceased was iden­ti­fied as Ker­wyn “Bel­lyez” Sam­mer­son, 42, of Up­per Wharf Trace, Mara­cas, St Joseph.

Al­so in­jured in the shoot­ing was a 38-year-old woman from the same ad­dress. Both were shot around 2.30 pm while sit­ting on the road talk­ing.

Of­fi­cers from the St Joseph CID re­ceived a re­port of the shoot­ing and learned that both vic­tims had been tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mount Hope, by fam­i­ly mem­bers. Sam­mer­son was pro­nounced dead at 4.10 pm, while the woman, who sus­tained a gun­shot wound to the but­tocks, was treat­ed and ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Of­fi­cers at­tached to the Spe­cial Ev­i­dence Re­cov­ery Unit (SERU) re­cov­ered five 9mm spent shell cas­ings at the scene.

Po­lice said the shoot­ing ap­pears to be linked to an ear­li­er al­ter­ca­tion be­tween Sam­mer­son and the sus­pect around 10.30 am the same day, in which both sus­tained chop wounds in­flict­ed on each oth­er. It is al­leged that Sam­mer­son lat­er went to the sus­pect’s home and fired sev­er­al shots, though no one was in­jured dur­ing that in­ci­dent.

The fa­tal shoot­ing is be­lieved to have been a reprisal for the ear­li­er con­fronta­tion.
