An Aranguez woman whose gold chains were snatched whilst in her car in Port-of-Spain on Sunday, following which she was dragged and thrown on the road before the bandit drove off with the vehicle, had it returned to her hours later at her home.
Police said the 36-year-old woman of Sundersingh Drive in Aranguez was seated in her silver Hyundai Elantra in the vicinity of the old Salvatori Building along Independence Square in Port-of-Spain around 12.45 pm.
At the time the vehicle was on, with the keys in the ignition.
The woman reported that a red Toyota Aqua pulled in front of her vehicle, following which a man exited and walked towards the driver’s side of her car.
The suspect allegedly reached through the driver’s window and grabbed the woman’s Cuban link gold chain with a jade pendant valued at $5,000, a gold pressed chain with a Hello Kitty pendant together valued at $5,000, and a third gold chain valued at $2,200.
As the woman resisted, the suspect dealt her several blows to her face, ripped off the chains, opened the door and dragged her out before throwing her on the road and jumping in the car and driving off.
The woman reported the incident to the police before making her way home.
Hours later, the victim was alerted by a neighbour that her car had been spotted parked lower down the street from her house.
Upon checking, the woman found the car locked and the keys sitting on the hood.
The jewellery was not returned.
