A street ven­dor is ward­ed at the hos­pi­tal af­ter an­oth­er ven­dor threw acid on her face as she sold her goods at High Street, San Fer­nan­do on Sat­ur­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Sharmin Ce­les­tine, 58, of Man­a­ham­bre Road, Princes Town was con­duct­ing sales out­side First Cit­i­zens Bank around 11:40 am when she saw an­oth­er street ven­dor pac­ing up and down, hold­ing a black plas­tic bag.

Ce­les­tine said she re­cent­ly had a feud with the sus­pect who lives at Vista­bel­la. The woman then walked up to Ce­les­tine and with­out warn­ing, she threw a yel­low­ish liq­uid on Ce­les­tine's face caus­ing burns to her face and eyes.

PC Wil­son and Singh rushed Ce­les­tine to the hos­pi­tal while PC Lin and Smith im­me­di­ate­ly ar­rest­ed the sus­pect. She was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do po­lice sta­tion. PC Ram­datt and PC Har­richa­ran in­ter­viewed wit­ness­es and seized a white plas­tic bot­tle which had a la­bel in­di­cat­ing it was muri­at­ic acid. CCTV footage has been re­trieved from the scene. The woman is ex­pect­ed to be charged with throw­ing a nox­ious sub­stance with in­ten­tion of do­ing griev­ous bod­i­ly harm.
