Six families in Valencia homes were damaged following strong winds and torrential rainfall on Sunday.
The unusual weather pattern, Guardian Media, occurred just after 3 pm.
On Monday, work was ongoing in the community to return some normalcy.
Luanda James, a Valencia villager, was at church when the roof of her home at Kangalee Extension blew off and landed in a nearby river.
James said when she reached home she realised the extent of the damage.
“We lost all of our electronic appliances and the rest of her items were soaked,” she said.
James thanked her neighbours who assisted in placing a tarpaulin over her roof.
The Sangre Grande Regional Corporation was also on hand to assist Valencia affected residents.
Vice Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, Simone Gill, who was site said the areas affected were KP Lands, Kangalee Extension and surrounding areas.
She said the National Self Help Commission was also working with the corporation to process grants for the affected villagers to repair their homes.
Villager Alicia Kampoo described the winds as heart-wrenching.
“I was in the kitchen; the rain was falling and heard the wind blowing, never did I would think it would affect my home but when I turned around I saw my roof going in the wind,” Kampoo said.
An uprooted tree also partially damaged a home in the same area of KP Lands.
